Racing Towards Reform, A Beach for Everyone, Fishing for Help
Dear Friends,
Affordable health coverage for small businesses remains a top priority of mine, and I am excited that the Affordable Care Act is providing tax credits, beginning in tax year 2010, for millions of American small businesses to help them offer health insurance to their employees - if they choose. Over 18,000 small businesses in RI may qualify for this benefit.
I urge small business owners to check out the Internal Revenue Service web site to determine whether you are eligible for the new health care tax credit, as well as the size of the credit you may be eligible to receive.
More information about the credit, including a step-by-step guide and answers to frequently asked questions, is available on the Affordable Care Act page.
Lastly, as we look forward to the long Memorial Day weekend, let us not forget all those who have served and sacrificed throughout our history and all those who are doing so today. It is because of the service of our veterans and our men and women in the armed forces that we can celebrate our freedoms and freely debate how to make improvements to our nation together.

During the recent dedication of a 65,000-square-foot renovated warehouse that is the first building specifically constructed to support Electric Boat's two-ships-per-year production requirements, they announced the hiring of hundreds of Rhode Islanders in the coming years.
Racing Towards Reform
Due to our size, Rhode Island has the unique ability to take on cutting-edge initiatives and serve as a model for forward-thinking ideas and partnerships. This is why I am supporting Race to the Top, an education reform initiative included in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Rhode Island is currently completing its second application, and I look forward to tracking this process to bring more resources for students and teachers to our state. If our application is successful, Rhode Island will receive substantial funding to allow us to create locally-based solutions that will deliver results that put students first..

Langevin recently participated in a Race to the Top press conference at the Rhode Island Foundation.

A Beach for Everyone
Salty Brine was one of our state's most heartwarming figures. It is fitting that the beach named in his memory has just been rededicated in this same welcoming and friendly spirit. This new design, which is handicapped accessible and features new energy efficiency technology, should serve as a model for other public spaces. Energy efficiencies and accessibility can go hand-in-hand to create a place for family and friends to enjoy for years to come. This project is also a great example of how federal, state, and local governments can partner together to improve public spaces. With funding from Rhode Island capital funds, the Governor's Commission on Disabilities, and the National Park Service's Land and Water Conservation Fund, this project is truly a collaboration.

Langevin rededicated Salty Brine State Beach.
Fishing for Help
Preserving the livelihood of our fishermen continues to be a top priority for me and my colleagues throughout New England. Recently, we met met Commerce Secretary Gary Locke to express our concerns about new catch limit regulations and to press the Administration to provide assistance to our fishing communities. I will continue to work to support our fishermen, and to strike a balance between conservation and preserving the industry.

Thank you for your continued interest and support. Please do not hesitate to contact me about your priorities and concerns as the 111th Congress continues.
