Jul 31, 2009

WARWICK, RI - Senator Jack Reed and Congressman Jim Langevin will tour the Warwick Area Career and Technical Center on Monday, August 3, to learn about their summer youth training and employment program funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

“Getting people to work - - that is the main goal of the Recovery Act, and I look forward to seeing these goals in action in Warwick,” said Langevin. “Making sure our youth have the skills they need to be successful in their job search is another critical part of this program.”

The Career and Technical Center has partnered with the West Bay Youth Centers in sponsoring this summer program for 170 teenagers from ages 14 to 24. Program participants earn $7.40/hour and are provided with various training opportunities, including: Construction and Green Building, Culinary Arts and Hospitality, Computer Technology, Personal Finance, Work Readiness, and Applied Math and English. The participants will also work on a green building and technology community project. An internship component will be provided to the participants who successfully complete the training.
