Langevin Statement on Nomination of Christopher Krebs to lead DHS’s National Protection and Programs Directorate
Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI), co-founder and co-chair of the Congressional Cybersecurity Caucus and a senior member of the House Committee on Homeland Security, issued the following statement regarding the nomination of Christopher C. Krebs to be Under Secretary for the National Protection and Programs Directorate at the Department of Homeland Security:
“The Trump Administration has moved far too slowly to fill vital cybersecurity roles across government. That said, I must commend the choice of Assistant Secretary Chris Krebs to lead NPPD. I’ve known Chris for years, and both in and out of government, he has shown a steadfast commitment to advancing policies that will improve our homeland security, particularly in the cyber domain. During his time as Assistant Secretary for the Office of Infrastructure Protection, I have been pleased by the increased emphasis he has placed on assisting states with election security requests, and I am sure he will continue that focus in his new role.
“Chris’s nomination also highlights the urgent need to reform NPPD. Reorganization of the Directorate into the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency is long overdue, and I hope the Senate will move quickly to take up the House-passed bill that will allow the organization to continue to evolve. I also hope the Administration will move to fill other outstanding cybersecurity vacancies, including a Federal Chief Information Security Officer.
“But for today, let me offer my warm congratulations to Assistant Secretary Krebs and wish him the best of luck in the confirmation process.”
