Langevin Statement on 500,000 U.S. COVID deaths

Feb 22, 2021

Warwick, R.I. – Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI) today issued the following statement regarding the United States surpassing 500,000 COVID-19 related deaths:

“I am heartbroken that our nation has lost more than half a million lives to the COVID-19 pandemic. We will keep the memories of those who have passed forever in our hearts. This grim milestone is a reminder that while we are hopeful that the quick development of vaccines and antivirals will see us through this dark time, we must remain steadfast in our commitment to preventing the spread of the virus and keeping our families and communities safe.

“In Congress, I’m wholly committed to ensuring Rhode Island can access additional federal resources and support to continue to carry out robust operations to test and vaccinate more of our community members. Every life is precious, and I will continue to do everything within my power to ensure the wellbeing of the people of our great state and country.

“I also want to express my deep appreciation to the frontline workers who continue to risk so much to care for the ill and prevent more infections. Essential workers have stepped up no matter the risks to carry out selfless work that will make it possible for us to get through these trying times. We are forever indebted to these heroes for their life saving work.”
