Langevin Lauds President-Elect Biden’s “American Rescue Plan”

WARWICK, R.I. – Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI) lauded President-elect Joe Biden’s recently unveiled “American Rescue Plan,” a $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief package that includes direct economic payments to individuals, extended weekly unemployment benefits, billions in grants and loans for additional aid to small businesses, and dedicated funding for expanded national testing and vaccination operations.

Biden’s “American Rescue Plan” also includes rent assistance, enhanced nutrition benefits, funding to expand the nation’s public health workforce, and expanded emergency paid leave for families. Additionally, it contains close to $10 billion to bolster the nation’s cybersecurity in the wake of the SolarWinds incident.

The following statement may be attributed to Congressman Langevin:

“Too many Americans are barely scraping by because of the pandemic and are in desperate need of help. I applaud President-elect Biden’s proposed COVID relief plan that will put money into families’ pockets with direct payments of $1,400. The ‘American Rescue Plan’ will also help those who’ve lost their jobs with enhanced unemployment benefits, provide $350 billion to support first responders and essential workers, and robust vaccination operations.

“I’m also grateful to see the President-elect pushing for important investments in cybersecurity in the wake of SolarWinds hack, which has placed a spotlight on the need to act now to protect Americans and our interests in cyberspace. We have missed leadership like this in the White House. I hope he will consider expanding information technology modernization efforts to state and local governments as well.

“We need bold action and a long-term vision to overcome the virus and ensure our nation’s comeback. We’re fighting on two fronts: one to protect public health and another to bolster our economy. I’m proud to have helped advance four major relief packages, but it’s clear Rhode Islanders need more help. I will work with President-elect Biden to deliver additional aid to the American people.”
