Langevin Statement on the Passing of Cybersecurity Pioneer, Howard Schmidt

Mar 2, 2017 Issues: Cybersecurity

Congressman Jim Langevin (RI-02), co-founder and co-chair of the Congressional Cybersecurity Caucus, issued the following statement today regarding the passing of Howard A. Schmidt:

“I was deeply saddened to learn today of the passing of Howard Schmidt, President Obama’s first cybersecurity advisor and a luminary in the field. A lifelong public servant, Howard’s career spanned military service, law enforcement, and civil society. But it was on cybersecurity that he and I worked together, and his contributions to that topic, from the creation of the government’s first dedicated computer forensics laboratory to the development of the National Strategy to Secure CyberSpace, continue to resonate today. Throughout my time working on cyber policy, Howard was always accessible, and he was a great asset in helping to explain the nuances of policymaking in this new domain. My heart goes out to his family in their time of grief – we have lost a true pioneer.”
