Historic Health Insurance Reform Passes House - WARWICK, RI - Congressman Jim Langevin today proudly cast his vote for the Affordable Health Care for America Act. This legislation combined the work of three House Committees into one bill and is the result of many months of hearings and public debate. It is estimated to ultimately provide health insurance coverage to 96 percent of all Americans, in addition to instituting reforms that will improve the quality and reduce the cost of care for all citizens.

Spalding Appointed EPA Regional Administrator - WASHINGTON, DC - Rhode Island’s Congressional delegation today applauded the Obama Administration’s announcement that it will name Curt Spalding as the new head of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Region I office.  As the U.S. EPA Region I Administrator, Spalding will be New England's senior environmental official, overseeing federal environmental programs within the states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont.

Congress Extends Unemployment Benefits - WARWICK, RI - Congressmen Patrick J. Kennedy and Jim Langevin voted again today to provide an additional 20 weeks of unemployment benefits for more than 4,000 Rhode Islanders, who have exhausted their current benefits. H.R. 3548, the Worker, Home Ownership and Business Assistance Act of 2009, extends unemployment insurance benefits in every state by 14 weeks, with an additional 6 weeks in high unemployment states like Rhode Island. The legislation had been held up in the Senate after originally passing the House in September.

House Unveils Revised Health Insurance Reform Bill - WARWICK, RI - Congressman Jim Langevin today joined his Democratic colleagues on the steps of the US Capitol to announce the details of the Affordable Health Care for America Act. This new legislation combines the three House Committee bills into one and is the result of numerous hearings and public debate. It is estimated to cover 96 percent of all Americans.  The bill is slated to come to the Floor for debate and vote as early as next week.

Langevin Statement on Medicare Physician Payments - Madam Speaker, I rise today in support of H.R. 3961, the Medicare Physician Payment Reform Act of 2009.  This legislation will prevent a scheduled 21 percent Medicare payment cut to physicians, while providing a long-term fix to the flawed Medicare reimbursement formula that has threatened access to care for over a decade.

Langevin Statement on Affordable Health Care for America Act - Madam Speaker, I rise in strong support of this rule and the underlying bill, which finally puts us on the path to solving our nation’s health care crisis.  Since coming to Congress, I have heard from countless Rhode Islanders struggling with the failures of our health care system. I have heard from constituents forced to make the unconscionable choice between seeing their doctors or their next meal, paying their mortgage or losing their coverage, and families facing bankruptcy due to catastrophic medical costs.  The time for inaction is over.‪
